Everything you need to get started with designing, building, and enjoying terrariums.
I built this site to provide some structure to the many resources available for building terrariums, to get folks what they need to create their own terrariums.
In 2024, in the darkness of February in NYC, I was shivering in my never-quite-warm-enough apartment. During an otherwise unremarkable, brain-rotting binge on the internet, I stumbled across terrariums–small capsules of the Earth that I could bring into my home. In comparison to the dreary gray skies outside my window these seemed absolutely bursting with life.
I leapt down the rabbit hole after deciding that I wanted to make a terrarium of my own. There was so much content–what terrariums are, how they're constructed, their history, content creators, equipment suppliers, plant nurseries, etc. I eventually found the sources that worked for me, for learning and sourcing supplies. Shout out to Terrarium Tribe for being a great resource in this.
Then, I made a terrarium! And another, and another... and it continues today. I've even hosted a few two-hour terrarium workshops for my friends, complete with a homemade presentation and locally-sourced materials. It's been a blast. If you're in New York City and want to run a terrarium workshop, let me know!
I hope this website makes it easier for others to enjoy terrariums as I have. It catalogs the resources I've found useful, provides definitions for common terms, and as a bonus, it was fun to make 🌱
